monday-friday's posts

monday: program auditions (stayed after)
tuesday:dressy dinner/began striking FFA
wednesday:audition night (stayed after)

thursday: i worked on my post mortem today, and this is what i have so far.

Accomplishments during Production:

We finished our film!!!! We as a sophomore/junior class were the first class in six years to complete their film project!!!! I’m proud that we were able to complete this project and have it be decent.

I stayed calm during crunch time. When production time was wearing down, I tried my best to push through the tense moments and think about the final product rather than myself.

I collaborated very well with Lea, Lindsay, and Miguel. Lea and I were lucky to be on similar if not the same pages for all of filming.  Working with Lindsay as both the playwright and editor, I knew she had her expectations for the film. I shared my ideas and expectations with her, and asked about her ideas for her film. Working with Miguel was very easy; we both respected each other as production manager and director.

I directed.  I tried my best not to tell the actors what to do, but to help them reach a conclusion on their own.

Fridays post

Pg-100

Today I paid attention to our "anything BUT nutrition" lecture.I actually liked learning a bit about editing, and would like to try it one day. I gave suggestions and feedback about the bit of commercial you showed us. Plus I took mental notes of all the tricks of persuasion and lying in the film industry, or really any industry. I also asked questions about my light designing (which I think is what I'm doing, just with A LOT of direction)which I'm excited as hell to try. Plus I handed in my menu on time, and actually want to try some of my meals. And when we finally talked about nutrition I did pay attention and took part in he discussion

Thursdays post

Tartuffe 2.4

So Valere finds out about Tartuffe and Mariane, and Is obviously pissed off. What I don't get is Mariane doesn't say to Valere that she doesn't want to marry Tartuffe, instead she says I don't know. What were the last 3 scenes about then!!! And Valere automatically tells her marry him then. You've been engaged for some time, you both love each other, obviously she doesn't want to marry some old guy! The Mariane, I guess out of spite or annoyance with Valere says she's happy about marrying Tartuffe. I do not get these two! Just shut up and get married! This whole scene neither comes out and says I love you. Instead they lie to each other. Mariane says she's happy marrying Tartuffe, Valere says he's fine with it and she can do whatever she pleases, even hough most of his lines are sarcastic.

Then, FINALLY voice of reason Dorine comes in and basically (another comedic moment) treats them like children saying I'm sorry to each other, except it's gem saying I love you to each other. But Mariane and Valere both have this desperate moment, of what can we do Dorine?! Thank god for her, otherwise they would all be screwed.she cmes up with he plan to stall the wedding and eventually make Orgon see that Valere is the right man for his daughter.

So today was the last day of filming, and we finished everything. Thank god. I'm very proud of my group, especially of lea who took so much pride in her work and always gave it 100000%. Miguel was always helpful and organized. Emily I was super surprised by. She really worked hard and I'm happy with what she gave us to work with. I'm excited to see my directing work, however crappy it turns out. I atleast know that I tried something I've been waiting to do since freshman year. Though I defiantly think I'm more of a theatre person than a film person.

Wednesdays post

Tartuffe 2.3

I am so happy Dorine chastised Mariane for being so stupid about the marriage! someone needed to say it to her. But she still plays the victim. She just rolls over and says "oh what can I do? I have to marry Tartuffe! How can I not? Oh woe is me!!" seriously? You can try something instead of acting like you have no power. Even when Dorine continues to yell at her, and tries to get her to take action, she refuses to do anything productive. When Dorine gives her advice, and spells out what she has to do, Mariane does nothing. Mariane's response is "well I will kill myself without Valere!" that's what you think of? Dorine even gets pissed, because that's not a solution. Finally Dorine has yelled at her so much she finally chooses to do something, and Dorine refuses to help, which is another comical moment. Eventually Dorine decides to help, and savethe marriage.

Today was our second to last day filming.I am extremely happy that were making progress.but at the same time I'm regretting how I "directed" the first few filming days. It bothers me that I didn't see these problems before the very end. Though I'm tryin to direct them by making them do the work, if that makes sense. I don't want to tell them what I want to see, but I try to manipulate situations, for example Ashley has to get scared by a teacher coming in the hallway, so to make her reactions more natural, I tried to change when the "teacher" (aka Miguel) screams at her. And I think it showed on film.

Tuesdays post

Tartuffe 2.1 and 2.2

So Orgon decides to basically hand his daughter over to Tartuffe and break of her marriage with Valere. I understand this is the way of the time, but come on. I get that Orgon has his bro-mance with Tartuffe, but to marry him to his young sautéed when he is an old priest? That's kind of nasty. And, catholic priests I though didn't get married! I'm confused.

But thank god for Dorine. I feel like a reacuring theme in this play is that the servants have this better understanding of morals, and are better at calling out people's mistakes. I would have reacted exactly as Dorine did. It drove me insane that Mariane did nothing!! She barely spoke for all of 2.2, while she let Dorine hash it out with her dad. I get it's kind of disrespectful but say SOMETHING! does she really have no comment about marrying some 60-70 year old guy?? Obviously not, but she says nothing.doesn't fight for her marriage to someone who will make her happy or anything.

I'm wondering why Dorine chose to speak against Orgon so harshly. Why was she standing up against her "master"/employer? For her lady? Maybe she just sees it as wrong? I'm not sure, but I liked all the points she made, and it was almost comical when she would be sarcastic toward Orgon's demands to be quiet, she's the only person so far in this play to show that she has balls!

Today I paid attention while we learned about comedia del arte. I actually found it interesting, more so than Shakespeare history, because I've never herd about comedia before now. And I enjoyed learning about the raked stage and dimensional set pieces. I also read Tartuffe, and thought of some thesis ideas for Fuente and Tartuffe.
