And so begins Lysiatrata. Right away I like this play. There's just sex jokes every line! And they're actually funny! It might be the translation, but it's seriously easy to understand. Except for the footnotes describing the women from Sparta and what not, but that's just a matter of geography. And who's against who in the war they're trying to end, but again, that's what google is for.
I guess I'm mostly surprised how vulgar they are. I used to think of Greek plays as stiff and formal, but this is just girls talking about sex! And it's really funny, really blunt, and interesting. It might be stereotypical but I usually hear about guys saying how great sex is so it's funny to hear all these women rave about their sex lives. I ended off just as the women make their vow, so basically the beginning of the second scene.

Today I came prepared for Carrie, and I had a much more open mind with the re-writes and all. I liked a lot of these ideas she was giving us like changing time/setting/character. Because I've always thought what would happen if this one character was in this play talking to this character. Also today I started reading Lysistrata, which so far I really like, and memorized, or tried to memorize more of my Laurencia monologue, but I only really memorized 3 sentences because it's a mile and a half long.
