Bus stop
By Michelle Lane
PERSON
A sits on a bench waiting for his bus.
PERSON
B enters and approaches PERSON A
B
Mind if I sit there?
A
I’m sorry?
B
Do you mind if I sit there?
A
Oh, sure, yeah by all means.
B
Thank you, I’m telling you my feet have been killing me all
day.
PERSON B walks to were PERSON A is
sitting. He patiently waits for PERSON A to move.
A
I know what you mean. I’m on my feet all day. Retail work.
PERSON
B gestures for A to move.
You’re constantly walking or…
PERSON
B repeats the gesture.
B
I asked to sit there.
A
Yes feel free, there’s plenty of room.
B
I don’t think you understand. I asked to sit there. Where
you currently are. I want to sit there.
A
Oh! Oh. I’m…sorry I’ll just shift over then.
He
does so.
You know I could’ve sworn you said “here” meaning like the
bench. Not “there” meaning where I was.
B
Yes well I said “there” meaning “here” so. That’s that.
A
Is there a reason?
B
I just like where I sit.
A
Yeah but it’s a bench. Why not sit anywhere on it?
B
Something about this spot.
A
Do you sit there every day?
B
Every day when I come home from work.
A
Is anyone ever there?
B
Occasionally.
A
And no one has ever asked you why you sit there?
B
Some do. Some don’t like to move, but they warm up to the
idea.
A
That’s good to hear. Has anyone ever not moved?
B
Oh plenty. Plenty of times.
A
What happens then?
B
Oh I can’t say. I’m on this new program.
A
Program for what?
B
Severe anger management. The SAM Plan they call it. Catchy
name isn’t it?
A
Severe…
B
Anger Management, yes. You see, I have had quiet the problem
with people sitting in my spot. One day I decided to take matters into my own
hands. But soon that became troublesome. Police and Investigators. And the
stains. You would not believe what reeking sent I would come home with. Stunk
up the whole apartment. So I decided to change my ways. SAM Plan for me.
A
Police? Stains? What the hell would you do to these people??
B
Oh. I probably shouldn’t have said that…
Plans are made to be broken right?
THE
END
