We hashed it out today an had our post mortem chat. I was happy we were able to express our "grievances" out loud and directly to the other person, it felt more open and more complete than just writing it down. We also began cleaning up the theatre and got fairly fair.

Tuesday's Post
Final page of Everyman!!
So Everyman cony yes his decent to his death, and all he has left is knowledge and good deeds. Good deeds being his only true friend swears on going with Everyman. Then knowledge admits he has to go like the others, and eventually says all you need are your good deeds anyway. And the doctor toward the end of the play basically read my mind. You have all these traits that ou think will continue with you when you die, but really it's only about getting into heaven or hell and that's decided on good deeds.
Pg-100
Today we watched The Seventh Seal, which was interesting to say the least. There were definitely some disturbing moments, but over all I started to see the similarities between the movie and Everyman, which I'm now happy I'm reading first, and also noticed the different tones of the movie. The Seventh Seal seems way more depressing while Everyman seems a lot more metaphorical and intellectual.

So, in Everyman, he comes back from confession I believe, and basically says onward friends! And all his new friends/traits say they will follow him to his death, but slowly they all start backing away, and leave him for his own problems. Dirt goes beauty, then strength, then discretion, then five-wits. Which is funny because as you die, you loose your beauty, then you become weak and frail, then you cant make good choices, and finally you loose your 5 senses, sight, hearing, taste, and maybe scent and feeling. But all Everyman has left is good deeds and knowledge.

Today I participated in the cleaning and free movement exercise. I actually got to go for activities today, and I felt like it went well. Originally I didn't have a set of stakes, but my nerves created this sense of urgency and need to get it completed, and I could NOT stop shaking!! It felt so strange, and when Emily started Meisner with me, I was really freaking out because I had to finish, I needed to stack those pennies and she was wasting my time and being stupid! I was going insane to say the least, but it was fun to start independent activities again.

Tuesdays post
Everyman is forgiven I guess? Confession, Knowledge, and him go through basically a catholic confession. Knowledge and Confession act as the priests, mire so Confession, and have him say his sins, they ask him to change or to understand what he did wrong, and he prays a bit and thanks them. Then suddenly, all his sins are forgiven!! So its exactly like the Catholics. He is told to wear his "confession" as clothing to further protect him, an to make God see that he is sorry and has been through Confession. Plus Good Deeds isn't on the floor anymore! I'm still not sure why he was there at first! I think it's something like Everyman's good deeds were never used and he kind of forgot to do good things, so they fell or stayed on the ground maybe? I still don't get that character. Finally Everyman is told to also bring Discretion, Beauty, and his 5 Senses with him. And when I read that section I will figure out why!!!
Pg-100
Today we had theatre history which isn't going horribly. I'm like 99.5% sure I'm secretly a history nerd. Because I enjoy learning about the changes, but it's hard for me to now figure out change doesn't happen quickly. Maybe it's how I've been learning history period for the past few years but they make everything seem so quick. Like in one day a conqueror comes to a place and changes everything. But now I see that history isn't overnight, it's more so 100's of years. Like Greek into Roman, it was this slow movement that no one is sure when it happened, but from start to finish it is a definitive change. So it's something new. I also love to think that there were people who wanted to create and had artist dreams, and made art that they probably never thought someone would study and want to learn about and analyze.
Mondays post
So Everyman finds Good Deeds, who is for some reason stuck on the floor. I can't figure out the philosophical meaning behind that, but anyway! Good Deeds helps Everyman find Knowledge, who's his sister, which in my mind translates to with Good Deeds comes Knowledge. you learn when you do good things. Knowledge I also think symbolizes the knowing and acceptance of death were told we experience. More support for that is that when old people die peacefully in movies or books and on occasion real life, they have this acceptance of the end. They know it will come to everyone and it's there time now. Knowledge seems to calm Everyman down. He is instantly happy that someone will be there to hold his hand, which is evidence of my reasoning behind Knowledge. Knowledge, ironically and obviously, is
the common sense to Everyman. She suggests confession to basically make peace with God and try your best to not go to hell.
I'm really loving this symbolistic (is that a word?) play. It's a really creative way that someone could have just said "he died." Why couldn't I write a thesis on this?!?!!?!!
Pg-100
So today we had acting training, for what seems like a really long time to me. And it was different. I enjoyed the connection exercise, feeling energy from your body and connecting with an object. To be honest, there were moments when I didn't feel energy pulling me to an object in particular, but more of a space, or sense that my "time" was done with an object. Occasionally when I was drawn to a space, I would find an object I was draw to once I got there. But overall it was weird to sense the energy before moving because I feel like those are usually and supposed to be connected. One movement; the drive and the doing. And it gave me a better sense of intentions and stakes. At one point I was so so so bent on moving a bump in the floor, and it just wouldn't move!!!! I had no idea what it was but it pissed me off because the floor was uneven! Also I felt like my repetition went well today. I started feeling the repeating in my body and tried to focus on my feelings and wants tried and make them clear.

Wednesday's post
I figures out why MORE people had to go with Everyman. Five-wits is easy; "you must have tour wits about you," at all times even in death. Perhaps? Also your wits are your sources of common sense. Something Everyman definitely needs while going to die. And then there was Strength. Another easy one, you need courage and strength in order to calmly pass on. Discretion I think is, you must have discretion while doing anything. You have to be able to pass judgement on unfamiliar things. Beauty is the one I don't get. Why would you need to look pretty?
But finally, they all convince Everyman to join the priesthood to lessen his punishment, which I think in continuation of the Confession is a cop out. They're trying to save Everyman when I think the purpose for this play is acceptance of the fate you're given.
Pg-100
Today I had to re-re-write all of the cues for he dance show, aka anything that can go wrong will go wrong. I'd also like to point out that I don't think I did horribly when re-writing these cues the first time from memory. I also would like to think my design kind of worked! I'm improving!!!!!!

Pg: 100
Today I hung the entire rep plot for Mack's show, with help from the dancers. I'm hoping and praying and crossing everything that my first full stage plot (meaning the audience isn't sitting on stage, and I actually have front light, and I don't forget my side light) does work and makes Mack happy. Because this is a LEGIT show. While Freshman and Senior Showcase are both important and are legit shows, the performers were my friends, they're more forgiving, plus I can use the excuse that it's difficult to design well with only half the stage. But now, I can't exactly have that excuse. Now the excuse is something along the lines of "I fucked up", but I mean other than that I'm super excited for it!

Wednesday's Post
Continuing with Everyman, once Fellowship leaves, Everyman's cousins, Cousin and Kindred, come to him and he asks them to follow him to his death. Now, there interaction was kind of cruel, because these three are family, they're kinsmen, and Cousin and Kindred basically run away from Everyman when he needs them. Kindred is especially cruel and literally says "I will abandon you when you need me the most" which I think is pretty horrible to flat out tell someone "Yeah I'm giving up on you."
But there's also something satirically funny about Everyman. Everyman clearly has friends and people around him, but as he needs them, they all shoot him down. I know its a pretty tough price to pay for a friend, but it makes me think of all the empty promises we make to people just because we think they'll never have to be fulfilled. It's the old "I'll take a bullet for you" idea, we as people want to support people and cheer them up, but often we're hiding our true feelings and being polite, and doing what is seen as socially acceptable. We never think we'd have to take a bullet for someone; but if we were put in that position, how many would actually take the bullet? I think the author is doing a great job of asking that question in a thought provoking although humorous way.
Pg: 100
Today was my minor day, and I had a lot of fun. Becca and I started making some costumes for Mack's show and they started coming out really cool; this like woven knot pattern that Becca and I basically attacked. We practically swarmed our two mannequins and just started tying away. I was surprised that I enjoyed even basic costume design/making, because I usually have issues when thinking of costumes directorially. I'll think of either really generic costumes that don't form a character, or something so perceptional that no one relates it to a character but me. So with my minor I'm hoping to understand other design aspects than lights.

Thursday's Post
The characters of Everyman are confusing me now. Maybe I'm getting philosophical, but I'm trying to relate the "character trait" characters to a world that also has "inanimate object" characters like the new character Goods. How is Everyman talking to his goods as a person? How does Goods exist in the same universe as the other characters? Or Everyman is going crazy and is now talking to his pile of money in the back corner.
Everyman continues his search for a deathly partner with Goods, his stuff, who basically tells him "I'm not going to help you in Hell, because I don't have value down there" Goods also says that he isn't Everyman's, he is God's gift to Everyman and that when Everyman is gone, Goods goes to someone else. That's the nature of money, its past from person to person.
I think Goods being an object is the play write's way of telling the audience a little bit more about Everyman. Goods recounts how Everyman got him, and says that if he had been nicer to the poor or hadn't been as frugal, he wouldn't be about to loose his life. Also, you can kind of say that more people would like Everyman and probably consider following him, because he had done nice things for them: you scratch my back, I scratch yours. And the play write might also be referencing that we don't take any belongings with us when we die, we just stop living; we don't travel to a special door with all of our valuables that we can use in the next life, or go on a train to heaven or hell with our suitcase, its just us dying. Valuables don't actually help anyone once their dead, they're only good to us while were alive.

Tuesday's Post
So Everyman. I figured out that he is asking people to accompany him to his death, and I'm fairly sure that by accompanying him the person would die as well. So I'm predicting that Everyman will go alone, or that this is a test of God, and those who do not give up their life to help Everyman will die. I think that would fit with God's disappointment with everyone.
Plot wise, Everyman meets Fellowship, who is a very caring and supportive person, and I think symbolistically meant to be one of Everyman's freidnly relationships (which is the definition of fellowship). And while Fellowship promises Everyman that he will support him and follow him, and even mentions staying with him until he dies, Everyman asks him to keep to his promises and actually follow him. Fellowship refuses saying he was only acting in a polite and socially acceptable way.
I think that one convention of this play is that while characters' names suggest at their character traits, the traits are very shallow, like Fellowship who has fellowship towards Everyman, but its lost once Everyman actually needs him. but I need to read more to see if it's a consistant convention.
Pg: 100
Today we continued our history lesson, and I was surprised how much I kind of remembered about Greek/Roman times, because we barely wnet over that in freshman year history, and besides that I haven't learned about Grrek/Roman time since almost 6th-7th grade. I took notes and partook in our discussion, also I knew a lot of the cities and countries that we went over.

Monday's post
I realised this week that I completely blanked on blogs last week. I seriously need to get back into the habit of daily blogs. It blew my mind that I just didn't do them.
Anyways! Today I started reading Everyman by Anonymous, which I must say I love the irony and the message of that. Everyman written by no man. Or Everyman written by what could be anyone, so that makes me think of a universal story. Or that it could be a play about anything, its just really vague. Even the characters are vague, like Messenger, God, Death, Everyman. Good Deeds is a character! So right off the bat I was seriously interested in this play.
Then I started reading. I kind of caught on to the plot, but I had to look up a lot of words to understand the dialogue. There was a lot of thee, thine, thy, cometh, and other -th words. To me it seemed like less rhyme-y Shakespeare. So far I understood that God is upset with every man on earth. Every one neglects what God has done for them and that they only have worldly possessions because of him, and God is sick of it. (As a side note, I had a moment where I actually thanked Catholic school, because as God is talking about what he's done for everyone, he mentions dying on the cross, so for a second I was really confused and kept thinking "but that was Jesus..." but then came the light bulb God/Jesus/Holy Spirit = same person.) But finally, God calls Death to go find Everyman and tell him that basically his time is up. Then Death starts to tell Everyman its your time to go, and Everyman asks to stay and pray to relieve his sins, or make peace with everyone in his life (or at least that's what I got from their dialogue) finally Death agrees to give him one more day to either find someone to die with him or ask fro forgiveness of his sins, or both, I'm not sure.
Here is one of the philosophical parts I'm not sure of, is "Everyman" literately standing for every man? Like is God trying to kill everyone on the planet? or is his name Everyman to stand for any person, like "this could happen to any one"? But then why isn't the character's name Anyman? OR is it that every person in the world has to go through this so the play write has Everyman as a symbol for every one's "passage"? Things to think about.
Pg: 100
Today we started with or majors and minors. As a directing major I got to do movement today, which was a lot of fun. It's weirdly calming and instinctual, while still being and exercise and still being work. I was sweating by the end of it. And the mindset i tried to fall into was all about wants and needs. I kept thinking "I want to touch that person's ankle" or "I want this person to move with me this way." or when other people would interact with me I would think "This person needs to be supported here" or "This person needs to run in that direction, I have to run with them". I think it actually made the exercise work really well for me by thinking this. But at the same time I did notice that I occasionally blocked out the rest of the group because I would be focused on my wants/needs or only one other person's wants/needs. Next time for movement I'm going to try incorporating the group's wants/needs and see how that effects my experience.

So Lysistrata today was wives running away from the Acropolis, I thought Lysistrata's whole oracle idea was really smart to keep the women locked inside. Their culture is so caught up on the future that it can be used against them just like that! But my question isni thought all the men were away at war, how are the wives going back to them so soon?
Then I finished with the Choral songs. And is there a reason that these plays seem to get more similar to our current structure as I read them? Or there seems to be more information like with the footnotes. But with the choral songs the men and women choruses go back and forth referencing other plays and myths and it's Malik me want to read those to know what they're talking about, or take Greek history to learn about all the rulers and what not. I'm actually really interested.
Pg-100
We had 8th graders today!! My possible future freshman! God now I feel old. I was in 8th grade at one point, about to go into highschool, but did not think I'd be doing this. Anyway, no more nostalgia, today I tested a few lights and had to get a light out of a cube (interesting stuff) and tested some gel colours. I'm excited because I think my plot won't have to be saved this time! Exciting stuff. I also continued to read and actually made a good dent in lysestrada. I should be done by Friday.

So we meet the magistrate. Is that similar to a mayor or council man? Because that's what I was getting, that he's some sort of government official. I think it's great that Lysistrata gets to just go off on him. He's extremely ignorant and he thinks he's this amazing politician, when I can picture him as this fat, balding, old man, not cut out for war.
Though I love picking up on the humor in this. It wasn't always easy to find humor in Shakespeare and Fuenteovejuna, Tartuffe, and Mistress of the Inn. But here I actually laugh with it, I can picture how it's still funny on stage. Like with the police men! One tough man comes up and is scared away by a girl threatening him, then another and an old lady scares him off, then another, and another. Then all 4 are scared off by and all women army!
Then the Magistrate and Lysistrata have their debate. And she actualy makes good points. She makes sense and all the Magistrate does is laugh it off like it means nothing!! But he finally leaves dressed as a dead woman. That's what you get.
Pg-100?
We had NWEA testing today, which I think I did fairly well on 253 math and 249 English. Hopefully that's good. We also had a meeting (finally!!) about the benefit concert. I'm slightly scared only because I'm not in charge, something I'm going to call stage manager syndrome. But Lea, Abbi, and Becca seem to have a good place to start. Plus today I continued reading and memorized a bit.

Plus today I continued reading and memorized a bit.
Tuesdays post
So more Lysistrata. This time it was the male and female choruses as then men tried to burn the women into surrender. This section was hilarious. A group of old men who keep saying "were going to teach the women a lesson and burn them" are complaining about the wood being too heavy and the smoke getting in their eyes. Such tough strong men. Then the old women come in with water pitchers, and the leaders of both choruses have a face-off. That was the best part, the men finally begin to light their torches and the women just pour their pitchers on the coals. The women win.

Today we had another huge college/SAT/education speech. Always a great way to start the day. I went to a college fair after school in NYC for PFA colleges. It was interesting and I hate to say it but I was a little in awe of everything they were saying and they made college sound fun; crazy concept, I know. But then we also finished our Greek theatre lesson an I did actually know some of the review. I also read on the train.

And so begins Lysiatrata. Right away I like this play. There's just sex jokes every line! And they're actually funny! It might be the translation, but it's seriously easy to understand. Except for the footnotes describing the women from Sparta and what not, but that's just a matter of geography. And who's against who in the war they're trying to end, but again, that's what google is for.
I guess I'm mostly surprised how vulgar they are. I used to think of Greek plays as stiff and formal, but this is just girls talking about sex! And it's really funny, really blunt, and interesting. It might be stereotypical but I usually hear about guys saying how great sex is so it's funny to hear all these women rave about their sex lives. I ended off just as the women make their vow, so basically the beginning of the second scene.
Pg 100
Today I came prepared for Carrie, and I had a much more open mind with the re-writes and all. I liked a lot of these ideas she was giving us like changing time/setting/character. Because I've always thought what would happen if this one character was in this play talking to this character. Also today I started reading Lysistrata, which so far I really like, and memorized, or tried to memorize more of my Laurencia monologue, but I only really memorized 3 sentences because it's a mile and a half long.

i literally spit out those 4.5 pages of Oedipus. they are such crap. im ashamed of them. BUT for awhile there i dont think i used any passive voice. then i got to maybe page 1.5 and had to start making shit up. that any i died a bit on the inside: how the hell did i make that into anything longer than 3 pages? how in the world. but it got handed in. now comes the ripping and shreading apart.
on the plus side im really enjoying watching other people do their monologues. i also try to find flaws and things for them to work on and then think how i would first expressing opinions and notes, then how youre actually supposed to speak to an actor. i alos look for what you tell them and see if i could pick it up at all. im kind of enjoying thinking about a characters intents and wants and needs but from an outside perspective.

thursday's post
today i began a bit of research on oedipus. i actually googled "oedipus thesis staments" i was that lost. as usual, my problem is i know what i think about the play, i just dont know how to phrase ANYTHING. i want to just be able to say "oedipus and Laius should have accepted their fates and they woulhave been betetr off" and that would be my entire paper. but sadly that doesn't work out so well in college. I'm going to have several emotional breakdowns in college over papers, but thats to be expected right?
pg-100
continued kind of understand the chorus; i'm trying to see if they have any insight for my thesis that i can quote, but so far not much i think i can use. wikipedia is my new best friend too, because a good majority of my arguements are coming from 2 paragraphs about oedipus and fate, though im expanding every thought and trying to take my opinion, not just theirs. a little bit more memorizing today as well.

wednesday's post
More reading of Oedipus, i finished the last few pages, and i began writing my thesis. I dont exactly have a clear thesis staement, but its going to have something to do with avoiding their horrible fates. the entire time i read oedipus i kept thinking, well they could just do this, or they can do that, or they should have done this, and all their issues would have been solved!!! So im most likely going to be jumping from one topic about fate to another, because i have a coupleof theories and opinions swimming around in my brain and i think im just going to spit them all out in my paper.
pg-100
went home and read today, attempted reading some chorus parts, and it kind of worked out well-ish. if i sit and read with my dictionary.com app open and google on my laptop, i can get through sections of the chorus. plus i began memorizing my fuenteovejuna monologue finally, which is actually 2 norton pages long.

Today I basically PLOWED through Oedipus. I'm understanding it! Maybe it's a really awesome-amazing translation, but it's fairly easy to get. Except those freaking choruses. I skip a lot of them unless it's in direct conversation. I've been reading the first 2-3 sentences and if I don't understand, I skip it. I'm planning on actually reading them when I don't have to spit out 5 pages of thesis-y goodness.
Today we also had our history lesson, which I hung on to. Its the deep lessons about theatre theory and what not that drive me insane! But actual history: not a problem.

AH. BLOGGING. JOURNALS. AH.
okay, anyway. so now that Swimming in the Shallows is over, blogs begin again.
so i started reading Agamemnon, and that didnt work out too well. I hate to say it and sound super ignorant, but why the hell can't they speak normally! though honestly, it was just the watchen's section that threw me off. it went on for PAGES. and it went from topic A to topic B back to topic A. so im saving that one for later when most of my brain is back.
and then i started Oedipus, and started by saying, "why cant they speak english...." but after the first two pages, i fell back into understanding a different style of language, kind of like earning shakespeare.

monday-friday's posts
monday: program auditions (stayed after)
tuesday:dressy dinner/began striking FFA
wednesday:audition night (stayed after)
thursday: i worked on my post mortem today, and this is what i have so far.
Accomplishments during Production:
We finished our film!!!! We as a sophomore/junior class were the first class in six years to complete their film project!!!! I’m proud that we were able to complete this project and have it be decent.
I stayed calm during crunch time. When production time was wearing down, I tried my best to push through the tense moments and think about the final product rather than myself.
I collaborated very well with Lea, Lindsay, and Miguel. Lea and I were lucky to be on similar if not the same pages for all of filming. Working with Lindsay as both the playwright and editor, I knew she had her expectations for the film. I shared my ideas and expectations with her, and asked about her ideas for her film. Working with Miguel was very easy; we both respected each other as production manager and director.
I directed. I tried my best not to tell the actors what to do, but to help them reach a conclusion on their own.

today in class even though you werent there, i helped miguel bring back the FFA's stuff in the theatre. we also brought back the table from the theatre to the classroom and cleaned up alot of the garbage backstage. i went home and worked on my review and post mortem.

Today I paid attention to our "anything BUT nutrition" lecture.I actually liked learning a bit about editing, and would like to try it one day. I gave suggestions and feedback about the bit of commercial you showed us. Plus I took mental notes of all the tricks of persuasion and lying in the film industry, or really any industry. I also asked questions about my light designing (which I think is what I'm doing, just with A LOT of direction)which I'm excited as hell to try. Plus I handed in my menu on time, and actually want to try some of my meals. And when we finally talked about nutrition I did pay attention and took part in he discussion

Tartuffe 2.4
So Valere finds out about Tartuffe and Mariane, and Is obviously pissed off. What I don't get is Mariane doesn't say to Valere that she doesn't want to marry Tartuffe, instead she says I don't know. What were the last 3 scenes about then!!! And Valere automatically tells her marry him then. You've been engaged for some time, you both love each other, obviously she doesn't want to marry some old guy! The Mariane, I guess out of spite or annoyance with Valere says she's happy about marrying Tartuffe. I do not get these two! Just shut up and get married! This whole scene neither comes out and says I love you. Instead they lie to each other. Mariane says she's happy marrying Tartuffe, Valere says he's fine with it and she can do whatever she pleases, even hough most of his lines are sarcastic.
Then, FINALLY voice of reason Dorine comes in and basically (another comedic moment) treats them like children saying I'm sorry to each other, except it's gem saying I love you to each other. But Mariane and Valere both have this desperate moment, of what can we do Dorine?! Thank god for her, otherwise they would all be screwed.she cmes up with he plan to stall the wedding and eventually make Orgon see that Valere is the right man for his daughter.
Pg-100
So today was the last day of filming, and we finished everything. Thank god. I'm very proud of my group, especially of lea who took so much pride in her work and always gave it 100000%. Miguel was always helpful and organized. Emily I was super surprised by. She really worked hard and I'm happy with what she gave us to work with. I'm excited to see my directing work, however crappy it turns out. I atleast know that I tried something I've been waiting to do since freshman year. Though I defiantly think I'm more of a theatre person than a film person.

Tartuffe 2.3
I am so happy Dorine chastised Mariane for being so stupid about the marriage! someone needed to say it to her. But she still plays the victim. She just rolls over and says "oh what can I do? I have to marry Tartuffe! How can I not? Oh woe is me!!" seriously? You can try something instead of acting like you have no power. Even when Dorine continues to yell at her, and tries to get her to take action, she refuses to do anything productive. When Dorine gives her advice, and spells out what she has to do, Mariane does nothing. Mariane's response is "well I will kill myself without Valere!" that's what you think of? Dorine even gets pissed, because that's not a solution. Finally Dorine has yelled at her so much she finally chooses to do something, and Dorine refuses to help, which is another comical moment. Eventually Dorine decides to help, and savethe marriage.
Pg-100
Today was our second to last day filming.I am extremely happy that were making progress.but at the same time I'm regretting how I "directed" the first few filming days. It bothers me that I didn't see these problems before the very end. Though I'm tryin to direct them by making them do the work, if that makes sense. I don't want to tell them what I want to see, but I try to manipulate situations, for example Ashley has to get scared by a teacher coming in the hallway, so to make her reactions more natural, I tried to change when the "teacher" (aka Miguel) screams at her. And I think it showed on film.

Tartuffe 2.1 and 2.2
So Orgon decides to basically hand his daughter over to Tartuffe and break of her marriage with Valere. I understand this is the way of the time, but come on. I get that Orgon has his bro-mance with Tartuffe, but to marry him to his young sautéed when he is an old priest? That's kind of nasty. And, catholic priests I though didn't get married! I'm confused.
But thank god for Dorine. I feel like a reacuring theme in this play is that the servants have this better understanding of morals, and are better at calling out people's mistakes. I would have reacted exactly as Dorine did. It drove me insane that Mariane did nothing!! She barely spoke for all of 2.2, while she let Dorine hash it out with her dad. I get it's kind of disrespectful but say SOMETHING! does she really have no comment about marrying some 60-70 year old guy?? Obviously not, but she says nothing.doesn't fight for her marriage to someone who will make her happy or anything.
I'm wondering why Dorine chose to speak against Orgon so harshly. Why was she standing up against her "master"/employer? For her lady? Maybe she just sees it as wrong? I'm not sure, but I liked all the points she made, and it was almost comical when she would be sarcastic toward Orgon's demands to be quiet, she's the only person so far in this play to show that she has balls!
Pg-100
Today I paid attention while we learned about comedia del arte. I actually found it interesting, more so than Shakespeare history, because I've never herd about comedia before now. And I enjoyed learning about the raked stage and dimensional set pieces. I also read Tartuffe, and thought of some thesis ideas for Fuente and Tartuffe.

SHAKESPEARE DAY!!!! The workshop was great. I learned a lot and had fun doing it. No pg since we stayed after.
Thursdays post
Tartuffe 1.5
So Orgon and cleante start talking and joking around witch each other about Tartuffe, I constantly caught the sarcasm an the teasing, then things got very serious and Orgon finally explained why Tartuffe is even in the play. And cleante clearly thinks Tartuffe is just a hipocrit and is lying to Orgon.
They both have these huge monologues in this scene, all in rhyme of course, and it did take me a few tries to understand the basic meaning.which is driving me crazy that im not catching on to more, sooner!
But I see how strong everyone's opinions are about religion or clergy men specifically. Cleante goes off about clergy men for almost a full page. What I want toknow is what is tartuffe doing wrong? I get he's almost stealing from Orgon and using him, but Orgon is letting him. Why is everyone calling him a hypocrit against the church? WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL?
Pg-100
Today we had hspa, so I'm not sure if I write this or not?

Wednesdays post
Tartuffe 1.2-1.4
so the norton explains this thing called "french scenes" where some scene breaks in the script do not actually mean the changing of a scene, but when characters walk in or out. and the only thing listed are the characters that are on stage at that time. iguess thats slightly confusing to notice location changes, so i'm guessing that the whole play takes place in Orgon's house? im not sure yet.
I find it really funny how no one likes being around Pernelle, except for tartuffe himself apparently. but Tartuffe sounds like a complete ass. He's just mooching off of Orgon, and Orgon hangs on his every word and well being apparently. I still dont get why he's even there in the first place! Really serious question though, when Cleante and Dorine say Orgon is in love with Tartuffe are they serious? i feel like its a figure of speech, like he just respects Tartuffe and is around him a lot, but if he actually loves him that would make this way more interesting! Because first of all, clergy men aren't supposed to love anyone and ESPECIALLY not another guy. Bu then they say Pernelle is also "in love" with Tartuffe, and that Tartuffe is in love back? i'm just confused if this is ment to mean actual love or just like a respectful obsession.
and then finally Orgon comes home, and he really is obsessed with Tartuffe! His wife was seriously ill, and Dorine tries to tell him and all he says is "poor man!" and "ah, and Tartuffe?" i feel like that would be funny on stage, but just reading it, it sounds so cruel and rude to his wife who has waited for him to return. But Orgon's only care is Tartuffe!!
And Tartuffe hasn't had a line yet. I feel like he would have by now since the play is kind of centered around him right now.
pg-100
Today i helped clear wood off the stage for the dance show. I also made the light plot and dimmer list. Which was confusing! i understood what to do and all, but flipping back and forth and writing the hotspot area then drawing the whole "beam" i guess. then once we got to the actual electrics it got harder, because half of the things jess hung are side light and two-fered.so i wrote the location of the light on the electric, and where the hotspot was and then tried to draw a plot, but it came out like poop.besides that! i went home and read tartuffe, and tried looking up websites to explain fuenteovajuna, because i want to make sure what i got from the play is correct and im not making things up in my mind.

Tartuffe 1.1
So my first impression of this play is wow rhyming.it's pretty crazy.the whole play has been translated and it still rhymes! Every line. It made it kind of hard to follow at first because I was caught on the rhyme pattern, but I re-read it and the rhyming made it easier to understand as it went on.
So basically what happened so far is this man Orgon and his family recently started living with a priest named Tartuffe. Orgon is married and has two kids, each with maids, so I'm guessing they're pretty rich. His mother Madame Pernelle comes for a visit and is quickly disgusted by the family's attitude about Tartuffe. The children and even the maids complain. Pernelle is clearly from a different time because she's angry with maids speaking out of turn and even orgons wife Elimire and how she runs the household.
I'm wondering if that will be an issue later on in the play. I also get the feeling that the children will some how disrespect either Tartuffe or Madame Pernelle. And I'm slightly confused as to why Tartuffe is there in the first place, it might have been explained but right now I didn't catch it.
Pg-100
Today I helped tech for nths. And I hope to be on that stage next year getting inducted. When I went home I read Tartuffe, and worked on some sequences for the film. Basically I drew out some in-between moments that I didn't draw in the storyboard because they're kind of "if we can do this" ideas.and I drew out some blocking I want to work over with Emily. And I looked up some songs if I end up using music at any point in the film.

Even though I wasn't completely there in class today, it's mostly because I feel kind of uncomfortable talking about health in class, on top of that we talked about colleges which is of course my FAVORITE topic. I'm going to try to be a bit more positive next week.I thought a lot about changing up the story board since our location has to be changed and slot of shots can stay the same just what is seen will be different.

So the master returns! I don't really understand his place in the play. Because he's not a part of the commanders men, but he doesn't really live in fuenteovejuna either, s I'm not are where he belongs. But basically after hearing about the murder at fuenteovejuna he's determined to tell fernidand and isabel, and kill fuenteovejuna himself.
The townpeoples strength really surprises me. Not one of them cracked and they endured the pain. It's kind of crazy that such a large group like a whole town could stick together that well. I think even Laurencia and frondonso were surprised that fuenteovejuna held together like that. Because they were both worried about the "inquision" with the judge. But the townspeople eventually tire him out.
Then the townspeople go to Ferdinand and Isabel and plead their case, while the master pleads his case of just killing off the village. But ferdinand eventually forgives the village and frondonso and Laurencia stay in love. Their whole story I feel is either completely covered up by othe action of the play or is the full focus of the play, so it's nice to hear how they end.
Pg-100
Today I got to hear a read through with my actors, for the very first time. I'm happy with the sound of the screen play, even though I know that will change once the cameras on. I really tried to help with their character work, and to get them as a group of characters rather than individually working with them. They all have a very good dynamic wih each other and clearr opinions of the other kids in their class. Plus today we learned about film lights which I am very excited for, because they're completely different than stage lights. They're going to be used in a very close space so designing for that is completely different than I'm used to.

So Flores told Ferdinand and Isabela about the commanders murder. One thing that really stuck out was the sheer brutality of how he was killed. First the men took care of him after he begged for mercy, then he was thrown down to the women who basically ripped his body apart. While I applaud them for goin through with it, that's a bit harsh I think. But then again they dealt with this guy for awhile. so I guess it was just time to take all their anger out.
Another thing I noticed in this scene was the rhyming. The translator mat have worked pretty hard to keep the rhyme scheme while translating. It actually made it a lit easier to understand and pay attention to. I felt that even with the huge monologue Flores has I was able to follow along way easier because of the rhymes.
Then in 3.4 the town starts to celebrate. They joke around about where to put his stuff and they're all happy to follow their "catholic kings". I actually think their idea of blameing all of fuenteovejuna was smart because how could you punish one man that way? Atleast they will all go down together as a town.
Pg-100
Today I deserve a 100 because I felt like I got the ball rolling on our screen play. Lea and I discussed final costumes and the story board. Miguel is working on the schedule and finishing the proposal. I'm getting big scared and excited for filming days. I feel like I have a good idea of what I want to see on screen and I'm determined to see that vision through. In like my own keeper of the vision!!!!!

They raided the castle! I was honestly laughing while reading just at the irony. The commanders whole team doesn't worry about the villagers and they step all over them for so long, but then the villagers come to kick their asses! Even the women! Who are all bloodthirsty, especially Laurencia who goes to take someone down all by herself. I was surprised but not, because I kind of felt this coming; the townspeople have been pushed down for so long by this commander and the town is strong enough to band together like they did and kill him. Oh how the mighty have fallen.
Pg-100
Today we learned about the globe theatre. I took notes even though we didn't really have to. And I asked questions about the time period because I think it was really interesting how theatre kind of got started, or at least became the huge deal it was in London at the time. It's also interesting how it was so looked down on. And while it still is (just not AS extreme) it's crazy to think how far we have come in theatre land.

It's official,I'm in love with this play.
Laurencia's speech to the men of the town was amazing. I was proud of her. After being raped on her wedding day, having her husband taken away from her,she still has this crazy power to lead the men of the town into action. She basically told all of them, since you didn't protect me why don't you just call yourselves women and do our work, and that the women would be better soldiers. I was pretty blown away, even though I had to read it twice to completely understand every word.
But on top of leading the men to action against the commander, she got the women to act too!! Which is crazy, because women would NEVER fight back then. I'm really excited to see what happens to the commander next, I just hope he gets what he deserves and that the villagers actually kill him.
Pg-100
Today I came prepared with my independent activity and my blacks. I think I'm getting slightly more open with repetition, and I'm trying to not care about others opinions especially because that's what usually screws me up. I got to do my independent activity today and I'm looking forward to trying again next week with added repetition.

2.3-the marriage of Laurencia and Frondonso! While all the celebrations are going on, the commander comes to break up the party. He comes to reprimand frondonso for defending Laurencia.
Honestly the commander is such an ass, just because Laurencia doesn't want him, and frondonso wanted to protect the girl he loves, the commander comes on their wedding day to kill him or throw him in jail! Then Esteban gets arrested for trying to reason with the commander. Though he did eventually insult him, but even still this commander is an ass, why wouldn't you insult him!! It's like a dirty cop, they get all the power of cops, but they sell drugs on the side or something. And even Laurencia gets arrested for tying to save her father in law. And the commander will probably try to get her to marry him or something soon.
This play is now really catching my interest. And in starting to understand everything a little better.
Pg-100
Today we had testing for sophomores, I got a 255 in math and a 239 in English. My math teacher told me anything above a 200-220 I think was good. So I'm happy with the yet scores. And Miguel found our janitors closet today that we will be filming in. I like it because it's really small but large enough to film in. Plus Lea and I discussed costumes a little bit more, and what we were both thinking for the story board.and I got honor roll this marking level and came one B away from high honor roll.

2.2 of fuente actually caught my attention. Mengo, Laurencia, and Pascuala were leaving fuenteovejuna? Is it because the commander was hitting on Laurencia, and kind of forced her into his house, or did I miss read that whole part? Then Jacinta comes in and is also trying to leave because the commander tried to take her as a whore too! Honestly who does this guy think he is, even if it is the time period and partly him using all his power as the commander, all this screwing women is a little ridiculous
And while his men are trying to take Jacinta to ciudad real, they beat Mengo just for trying to protect Jacinta!!! And she still gets taken away!!
But I guess there's some happy ending, Laurencia and Frondoso are going to get married, which is kind of weird since a few scenes ago they were debating whether or not love exists, and now they're proclaiming their love to each other. And I guess Frondoso is refusing the dowery? Which I thought was nice, like he has no other want or reason to marry Laurencia other than he loves her. At least that was my take on it.
Pg-100
Today we had our first history lesson in awhile. The time line really messed me up. Only because thinking of everything over lapping and trying to remember where everything happen is hard for me, but I love learning world history. I guess it's just finding that muscle. But I took notes and participated in the class discussion, and I'm actually looking forward to more theatre history, because we haven't had any history all year, even in academics, so its nice to get back into history lessons.

Still reading fuente. Honestly I'm kind if confused on what is happening. Most because I continually forget who everyone is. It's reminding me of cherry orchard since they both have a crap load of characters.
So in 2.1, the commander is kind of looking for girls if the town, and, I think trying to choose one for the day. Like they're just his play things. Which I think is such crap; just because he's a great military leader doesn't mean he's this god that can get any woman he wants, married or not. Then they all leave to fight in some battle? I'm kind of lost in exactly what happens in this scene.
Pg-100
I was looking forward to acting today, and I enjoyed starting Meisner again. I thought I eventually got back into some sort of grove with repetition. The stick is what got to me. Once you upped the stakes,I lost it. For some reason having extra credit dangled in my face for doing an impossible task, depressed the CRAP out of me. And I defiantly gave up. But I defiantly tried in class today. And I read once I came home. Plus I started thinking of what to do on our first production day, which I'm kind of scared for.

Thursdays post
So today we saw raisin in the sun. And I apparently know nothing about it. After listening to everyone else's opinions I guess I had completely wrong ideas of the play.
My thoughts were pretty much the blocking, with everyone's backs toward the audience was a way to bring the audience into their home. Like make it seem as if the audience wasn't there, but now I know it's just bad directing. I thought I figured out the directors idea, but nope,he was just bad. Yay I get to direct and would so something like he did.........
And I liked the set, but I guess it wasn't fully time period. The acting if course was fantastic, an it was amazing to see the booth and get the catwalk and sound system explained to us. I liked the show and all aspects but I guess some things were just bad?
All and all, it shocked me how wrong I was I guess? Like I felt no one liked the set or blocking and I really liked it. Or at least I thought I understood it. GUESS NOT.

tuesdays and wednesdays post
Stayed after for auditions on Tuesday
Wednesday:
I started fuente today, and got to about act 2.2. So far I enjoy the play a lot. The dialogue was hard to catch on to at first, and I had to look up a couple of words. I also hated how every character would have huge monologues that go on for pages! The commander especially, he had a few and they were confusing and made the play move very slowly for me. But it started to pick up speed in 1.2 with the townspeople dialogue.
I did like the interaction between the commander and the master, since the master is so much younger and is doing the same thing as the commander, and that seems to bother the commander,so I think that will cause more conflict later on in the play.
Pg-100
Today we ran auditions and im very happy with my cast. I wasn't sure though how to run auditions and I was kinda scared once you started watching. We also took a really long rime apparently thanks to our camera having issues and us not having a fire wire. I saw lea freaking out in the same way I was, because neither of us actually know what were doing,so I'm defiantly looking forward to more of that.

thursday's post
today we worked on bringing the curtains back up, which was insane.
post mortem:
this one i actually tried really hard on. its not as scattered and it makes actual sense.\
Accomplishments.
I managed. There were days that it just worked! I have no idea how or why but it did!! I hate to say I got all of compliments but did and that kept me going. I felt like there was a point of just "time to step up to the task".
Most likely when katelyn lost her great grandma, because she was out of it for about 4 days understandably, and I just said, time to pick up more weight,my friend needs it.
I learned to work with people in a more professional way. To take any prior feelings about the individual out and just stick to the business at hand.
I called a show! I did that. Yeah its kind of easy and anyone with a good eye can do it. But it as a huge fear of mine from the start and I did it. Small accomplishments make bigger ones feel better.
I felt I supported the actors very well,I made sure they were all okay physically and made sure that they were okay mentally. I made sure my tech crew did their jobs efficiently. Though I wish I could have had time backstage to make sure their responsibilities were being carried out back stage as well.
I worked well with our professional artists. I respected them while working and always welcomed them into our theatre.
pg-100
today i helped sweep the stage. i set up the genie even though we didn't need it. i helped get the 1,00000 pound curtains on stage, and thought of the bridge idea to get them across easier. when we were lifting the curtains up, i made sure everyone kept holding some part up. and i checked up on people who had held the curtian for a long time to make sure they were okay, because i was seriously scared someones are was just going to give out.

wednesday's post
today we struck some more set, and it hurts less. its just like going back to normal, back to the old stage and the begining of the year.
more post mortem! and this is basically leaving off from tuesdays writing.
Line TESTS. Some actors didn’t memorize their lines. what the flibberdy-gibbit. I told them in every rehearsal report, and and andddddd during class. but still 4 people completely failed! I was so unbelievably pissed off. just memorize them! how hard could it honestly be!!!!! Like what the hell guys! 2-3 months with these lines and you know 20% of them? But eventually, like another month, they got them.
February was crazy timee! I always had this feeling that the show would somehow fall apart. There were so many times when i was going to. During re-casting of Miguel and Fernando (which though I understand why it happened, I feel like it was such a pain in the ass at the time.) and the rescheduling disaster (I HATE SCHEDULES. HATE THEM. And let me be clear, that I MADE that schedule, I worked on it in Barnes and Noble for 3 hours, while Lea talked to Abbi, Katelyn looked at me and helped some times, and Miguel typed everything up. Then I went home and re-did the whole thing because it was wrong, THEN after all of my work, it was still wrong and people still had stupid conflicts.) schedules can go in a hole and stay there.
pg-100
today i worked on taking down and re-filing the gelsi tried to work around the building trades kids, and i thought i did a good job of keeping the gels organized. when i went home i mounted 4 of my pictures for my sm book.

And let me be clear, that I MADE that schedule, I worked on it in Barnes and Noble for 3 hours, while Lea talked to Abbi, Katelyn looked at me and helped some times, and Miguel typed everything up. Then I went home and re-did the whole thing because it was wrong, THEN after all of my work, it was still wrong and people still had stupid conflicts.) schedules can go in a hole and stay there.

today i worked on taking down and re-filing the gelsi tried to work around the building trades kids, and i thought i did a good job of keeping the gels organized. when i went home i mounted 4 of my pictures for my sm book.
monday's and tuesday's post
monday-stayed after for the auditions that didnt happen.
tuesday-
oh my god welcome back to blogging. its been atleast 2 months.something like that. that means reading again, and participation and all that jazz.
but for this week i'm working on my sm book, and my post mortem.
POST MORTEM:
So life as a stage manager. To start from the beginning I was scared,to manage a whole show? to manage the seniors and freshman once they came to Rehearsal? Even the juniors;most of them know so much more than i do and I didn’t want them to think of me as stupid. it was a rough start to say the least. But we started off easy, without much tech and just taking notes for Aladren. Katelyn and I worked out our rehearsal report schedule, and everything went okay.
Thank god for Katelyn! I’m extremely thankful that I had Katelyn to fall back on. That's one thing I really liked about this experience, I had another sophomore who knew exactly what my head was like because her head was the same way! I knew that we would help each other in times of huge stress.
we started in-class rehearsals in January I think. It was mostly everyone finding their character, finding how they would walk, talk, fall, run. I liked observing the actors work, and I think in the end I taught me some things as an actor and director. Rehearsals were always funny to watch. We were going to record all rehearsals and eventually create a documentary type film, but we could never find time for transferring film from the good cameras to the Mac. Looking back though I wish we continued filming because it would be great to see my personal progress as a stage manager.
pg-100
today i worked with the building trades kids on taking apart walls. i helped un-screw screws from all of our walls that we worked so hard to spackle, paint and put up.it hurt a bit, but like a band aid you just have to pull it off. i also started taking down some gels and black fabric from the traveler. when i went home i worked on finding pictures that i can used for my sm book.

i was in charge of the actors not called. i had them move the walls to the back of the theatre, and we identified 3 of them. i had lexii take notes so katelyn could tell lea in the rehearsal report. i had groups organize and clean both wings, and had lindsay take charge of the gel cabinet. we cleared off the light and sound board table, and cleaned up the wires on the floor. plus margie and i cleared a huge space for lea, including a place to hang things, the whole table, and a shoe rack.
pg-75
thursday's post
thursday i helped the graduation people turn on the stage lights. i was in scarlett's painting group. i helped paint 3 walls for lea. i moved the set to make room for the painting, and i lead the group when we had to move walls.

wednesday's, thursday's and friday's post
wednesday i stayed after.
thursday's post
thursday, i helped work the run through. i was on light board and kept the actors on track backstage. i told them to warm up,and gave a little speech about whats going on with miguel directing and gabe taking his place. plus i informed everyone of the new schedualing. i stayed on book, and could help anyone to know when their entrances and exits were if they could not hear them on stage.i did brown-outs at the end of every scene to kind of get the feel of lights up-lights down.
pg-100
today i kept actors under control. i paid attention to the run through. i stayed on book. plus i got to handle a bit of a crisis amongst the actors with the switching of roles.
fridays post
pg-100
today i had all of the actors not called. i didnt have much for them to do, so we read through the last scene because that where everyone felt they were struggling.many know their lines, they just forget on stage. i took pictures of the blue and white fabric that we have and will be sending them to lea. plus i had the actors move the sound equiptment that was invetoried, and help lea move the walls to the back of the stage.plus i informed the actors of fernandos situation, because he is now switching out if his role and joining tech.plus i stayed after school and schedualed as best as i could.i'll be sending you the mostly full schedual as soon as i fix a few errors.

monday's and tuesday's post
monday i stayed after.
tuesday i was in rehearsal with you blocking act 2 scene 2-A. i kept everything neat for the sm-book. i typed up the rehearsal report.and i really tried to better understand the direction and blocking process today.because i dont think im ready to cross that off of my list of things im interested in.katelyn and i also discussed how were going to work the run through, and i think we have a pretty good plan.
pg-100
today i took all blocking notes.i made sure to check all the line cuts, and made sure the actors had them.i also tried to help katelyn with somewhere to move the walls we got from building trades, since theyre causing a fire hazard, and a general movement hazard.plus today i saw the lion king and thought it was visually insane.like i would have loved to see the directors, all the designers, and the actors books from that show, wheter they did any or not, just to see their creative process.

thursday's post
today john was absent so we took notes on costume design, and the general design process.it made me think alot about design, and what i want to do. im now debating some possible light design.as a stage manager today, i set up the classroom as our set,and made sure all the actors who were called were present and ready, and called john when he was absent. then i deconstructed the "set" we set up.
pg-100
today i took part in our discussion, and took my notes.i set up the set and was ready for rehearsal and writing blocking.i made sure the actors were all prepared and knew where they were going.

wednesday's post
today i went back over the sm box list. i made notes of where to find things, or if it was really 100% needed, to save us money.i went through my house and found anything on the list and brought it into school. then i went over the set wish list with my dad and looked around the house for anything my family has to donate.plus im planning on emailing a friend of mine's dad who is involved in carpentry, and might be able to either donate lumber or possibly time from his complany.and possibly if were super lucky money, because he's feeling super generous!
tuesday's post
today we went over writing blocking. where to write certain things and how to write them easily. we got to use the mini-groundplan paper that i made.and i got to sit in on a rehearsal, though katelyn took over on re-writing blocking, and making sure that the blocking was achieved. i got to watch the scene with a fresh eye, and it looked really cool, and it will look way better when everyone knows exactly whats happening.today i got to help think of choreography for abbi and fernando, though i hope that i wasn't being disruptive and sort of directing the scene.if i was i'll shut up next time.then we ran through act 1 scene 2, which we have to still write the blocking for since we did that before we had a script.
pg-100
today i tried to keep the class under control, and i directed the setting up of the classroom.then i split up the class into called and not called, then ran the first scene with the actors, and watched the second scene. finally i helped with finishing the choreography of the first scene.

monday's post
our very first schedualed rehearsal! honestly, on my part today did not run too smoothly.but it was our first rehearsal, so we're bound to have a few rough patches. katelyn, lea, and i started by setting the stage. at first i didnt think to add alot of the set.i dont know why, it just didnt click in my head that to block, we'd need a set.SUCH A CONCEPT.but then i took the un-called actors and had them do character work.many of them had said to me that they had questions to ask each other. so i helped them as much as possible. plus the actors decided to run through one scene for kelsey and scarlett to be able to get to a similair register.
then we had to clean up the sage for the dancers, and i made the mistake of not moving and organizing the gels.that was completely my bad, but we got it cleaned enough so the dancers could use the gels.
pg-100
even though i made some mistakes today, i really tried to do the best job i could. i set the set up as quickly as possible, using the groundplan as a referance.i kept the actors under control and made sure they were constantly working on something benificial.i also kept track of the time so we could clean up. and i made sure the stage was cleared as quickly as possible.

friday's post
pg-100
today i saw disney princesses on ice. NOW, before you groan and hate me for seeing it,it was really cute. and i had a mini geek out over the spot lights, the costumes, the light board that we passed like 20 times, the sound board i could see from my seat, the fricking size of the izod, everything.i was freaking out techie-style.the show its self was really good and the skating was pretty insane, so i get extra credit for seeing an art show? maybe?
if not, today i was late to school (i HATE my bus,my driver, and the bus company) so i missed shop period. but i started printing out rehearsal reports for me and katelyn. plus i finished formating my play, and i wrote down this random monologue type thing i thought of on my ride on the bus home today about crazy pms.i think i might try to conitue it inot something, which would probably be a comedy. which is good because i haven't wrote a comedy yet.

thursday's post
today at home, i went through the list chelsea gave katelyn and who forwarded it to me.i made a list of things we really need, and kept out anything too extreme for high schoolers (things like smelling salts, contact cases) and took away any repeats. then put it all in a nice list for our sm box. QUESTION TIME: is this sm-box going to stay as the shop's sm-box?or is it just for katelyn and i? plus katelyn and i checked between us and made sure we had all of our rehearsal reports.then i took comedy of errors script, and i had to change fonts, font sizes, and margin sizes for my mom to print out new copies for the sm-book.
wednesday's post
today i worked on taping the floor with kcovs, john, and miguel. to be quite honest, i felt like the guys were having a bit of a testasterone war... but i understood what we had to do to tape, with the groundplan and measuring.i let johntake over though, one reason being he says hes not that much of a tech, but he's definatly a math wiz,so he definatly could handle the groundplan and give out directions easily. so i taped with miguel and katelyn.plus if anyone needed help quickly and you were busy i would try my best to either explain how to do something or show how to do something correctly. like i helped lexii and lea re-weight 2 electrics quickly.
and today we had two sort of problems. 1 being lea was up in the catwalk with lexii, scarlett and i both saw/hear this and scarlett went to her group to tell them that was a big no-no, and i made sure she knew why and would explain why it was an issue, which i believe she did. 2 being when katelyn gave directions to margie and victoria in the costume loft, alot of work did not get done the way it was supposed to and alot did not get done period.we now know next time anything happens like that, to speak with you asap.
pg-100
so today i tried to be as helpful as possible with the groups around me while still working effciantly with my group.i measured and taped the floor with the help of my group, even though some times things were slow going, we got the hang of it and and do the rest much easier.i tried to keep mental notes of the other group's work and if anything was going wrong (even though i made the mistake of not telling you asap.) plus i was teching for awhile in heels! i think that definatly earns some participation points.

tuesday's post
today was schedual day. oh my god. its so much time, but then you look again and its two months.two months fly by usually.i was kinda freaking out. i wrote down everything today and helped you talk to jess because i had her number! i went home and cleaned up the after school rehearsal schedual, making sure the only people who need to be there are called.i then had to sit my parents down and tell them all the dates im staying after school.which was fun because they were going to take vacation at some point in march, and now we have to figure out some creative carpool scheduals to get me there during tech week.
pg-100
i tried to help keep the class quiet while we were figuring out the schedual.
and i want to say one of my fears of being co-sm is that im not going to get a lot of "respect" from the class. like obviously im not trying to sound all high and mighty, but there are going to be times when me and katelyn have to tell people what to do.i'm just fearful that my friends that i've known for a year and a half wont want to listen or will give me sarcastic comments that are ment to be funny but are kinda rude and un-nerving when you have to get things done.just wanted to express that.because its kind of been happening lately just when im trying to keep the class quiet.
back to pg, i did my schedualing homework, and me and katelyn tried to figure out how to schedual day rehearsals with the people we have. and we kind of got to the conclusion that untill we have some tech stuff to handle, were unsure of how to schedual everything.plus i explained the whole schedual and what i'd be doing everyday to my parents.

monday's post
so today we got the fixed-ish groundplan. i think it was still off, i'm forgetting which copy is good and which are the mistakes.anyway, lea, kcovs and i taped the center line down, because thats pretty easy to do without a groundplan. STUPID QUESTION TIME: is there ever a time when the center line isn't actually center on purpose? like the while set is just off center? and its an artistic choice? or is it like the off center set is based on the actually centered line? anyway. i made two trips to urine town, 1 alone to look for tables for the cafe, which i found 3 different choices. personally i just think the big one works best for rehearsals, but based on the time period and place, the small black one's size and the orange and metal one combined, size from one, the metal design from the other, would be perfect.but then, going with the cubist style the metal work might not fit so well.ANYWAY, then i went to urine town with kcovs to get basically a shopping list of set.tables, chairs, cups for the cafe. anything we could find that we thought we would need in the near futureor could be used at some point.it was actually pretty fun.
pg-100
today i went to mr.williams and talked to him about the groundplan problems.i did my warm-ups and surprisingly i find myself doing more cruntches than needed (im like an exorcize nerd now....) i worked with lea and kcvos on the center line, which is kinda harder than it looks. but we got in straight as possible eventually.then we set up the set with the pieces we have based on the groundplan.and i went "set shopping" in urine town.

friday's post
today we got our ground plan!!! its insane. when i was getting the copies from cad i was just starring at the messed up copy and trying to picture how CRAZY this is going to look. like im almost sad i'm not acting because i can't play on the set! but i dont care, as we're building it i'm definatly exploring it like everyday of rehearsal.
plus i didnt have to write this cause i was at the new jersey one minute play festival rehearsal so i gets me some extra credit!

thursday's post
so today i thought was going to be acting day but instead i was organizing the costume loft with katelyn and lea. i missed meisner a little bit and i wish we could do more of it, but obviously we cant with rehearsals coming up. but anyway. lea was a really good worker today. as much as it sucks to clean and do the bitch work on her first real day, she took it pretty well. katelyn and i tried to keep the areas of the costume loft like mens shirts and what not. we just looked through every rack we could (time permitting) and took out anything that didnt belong and moved it to where it did belong. the shoe section is finished, mens and womens shirts is mostly done, shorts/skirts is done, button downs is done, specialty costumes is done, coats are done, fabric is almost done, and we really just have to finish all the boxes up in the loft.
pg-100
today i did my warm-ups and my cruntches are getting WAY easier, and my push ups are even getting a little easier. i had my blacks today even though i didnt really need them. i cleaned alot of the costume loft. plus me and katelyn tried to fill lea in on "theatre class and how we do stuff" as much as we could while working on organizing.

wednesday's post
today i was the leader of the inventory group of john, kesley, victoria, and fernando. as a stage manager, i kept my group under control and led them in opening the pit, even though we didn't work on that part of inventory yet. we checked all of our set pieces, so i sent people to measure and sort cubes and stairs so i could help you with the inventory numbers. then i worked out the platforms from the back of the theatre and booth issues with my group. and we decided that eventually we have to go to the trailers to take inventory in there as well.

tuesday's post
so today at home i brain stormed some endings for just a pack of gum, since i've been at a bit of a standstill. i formated a lot of my play too. i checked my email for any news on the play festival, and on lea/jess/you. i actually had a lot of sat questions of the day in my email (i think almost 10 i hadn't answered) so i answered all of those today as well.

friday's post
today i continued to help people with character work. kelsey, lindsay, miguel, and margie did alot of work today.zar, emily, and ashley asked any questions they had to to the more major characters about their relationships.
today i also edited some of my screen play and formated most of it. i haven't gotten any responce back about interning for the play festival.
pg-100
today i tried to get people to work more than yesterday, since only a few people did alot of work.i helped anyone who was working and kept everyone on track.i'm trying to listen to everyone's character work so i get a better understanding the play and i think it can help with watching/helping with rehearsals.

thursday's post
today we didn't have a teacher, so i tried to get the class to do some work.i helped some people who were really working with their character work. i tried asking questions that they would have to know, and checking any character information they thought of against the script.and i tried to keep the conversation even between characters, or if it got too noisy i tried to keep everyone under control.
today i was really happy with kelsey, lindsay, and miguel. they all worked on characters together and talked alot about their past. ashley worked with them towards the end about how they were raised, since she some how became a nun.so we have alot of questions about that.
pg-100
today i helped some people with their character as much as possible without taking charge, and made sure that people who weren't working had done some character work.i think everyone got alot done today.i kept the class under control.

wednesday's post
so snow day work.
today i actually used an idea kelsey gave me and looked up comedy of errors on youtube, and watched one of the only full versions i could find.i became very thankful for that marking period of just working with the text and understanding everything.so many versions on youtube have no understanding of the play and it was killing me.the full one i watched luciana was played very high and shrilly (which was super annoying) and nothing was hinted at with her and antiphilous of syracuse which made some things kinda confusing.plus alot of versions had only one antiphilous and dromio, and i understand it can work that way,but personally, i didnt like it that way.i thought many actors couldn't handle the switches during the big scene at the end where both antiphilouses and dromios are in one place.
i started some of my comedy of errors idea book/word document.right now it just has the rehearsal reports, cast list, and a few pictures that are the inspiration for characters.
plus today i worked on my play more, and i have a little more than half the second act done.i realized that version 2.0 is way shorter that the original, and i kind of like it alot shorter, because it gets straight to the point.the first act is only 3 pages as apposed to my first one's 7.
today i actually used an idea kelsey gave me and looked up comedy of errors on youtube, and watched one of the only full versions i could find.i became very thankful for that marking period of just working with the text and understanding everything.so many versions on youtube have no understanding of the play and it was killing me.the full one i watched luciana was played very high and shrilly (which was super annoying) and nothing was hinted at with her and antiphilous of syracuse which made some things kinda confusing.plus alot of versions had only one antiphilous and dromio, and i understand it can work that way,but personally, i didnt like it that way.i thought many actors couldn't handle the switches during the big scene at the end where both antiphilouses and dromios are in one place.

tuesday's post
today we started rehearsals again.and i dont want to say "real rehearsals" but today it felt like we were just doing alot more.which is good.as a stage manager, katelyn and i found props like tables and chairs for the second scene along with bags of money, cups for the actors, and wallets. it was fun doing work like that because it made us have to get creative and think how can we use this to make something else? like for the bag of money we were trying to find something to be money,we thought of silverware or jewlery from the costume loft, but i found those marble things in urine town and they worked well.we also thought of ways to get an old school bag of money, more cartoonish than like a wallet or actual purse filled with money, and we used a square of fabric and a hair tie to make the bag.then i tried to figure out the camera, but i needed alot of help, hopefully next time i can do it with little to no help.
today watching the scene was really funny, i really enjoyed watching john and emily work together and i really like scarlett's little stunt thing, i thought it was an interesting touch, rather that scarlett just standing and getting yelled at.i was kind of watching everyone beat up fernando, and i'm loving the physicality of the play.i know we've been saying how physical its gonna get,but watching a scene with it is way different.and its just going to look so cool, and im getting extremely excited.

today i brought blacks for class and did my warm-ups (which i'm getting way better at,they're starting to hurt less) i set up the camera and tri-pod as best as i could alone, and learned how to actually use it to film today. i helped find props with katelyn and moved some tables and chairs around with her and peter too.some random odd jobs i did too: un-screwed legs from a mini platform, went to cleo for the tripod base, and made sure everyone was either getting ready for rehearsals on time or getting out of the theatre at the end of class.

monday's post
today we finished the pit.finally finally finally finished the pit and it looks so nice and clean.today i was in charge of a group of people.we moved macenite and louon.as a stage manager i tried to keep my group working, and get our job done as quickly as possible.i also helped other people if they needed anything.im trying to learn where everything is in the theare and what it can do.that was one fear i had when i first knew i was going to be a stage manager, not knowing what anything is or how to do anything.and i think paying attention during tech and doing as much extra tech work as i can is really helping.
pg-100
today i was a leader of a group.i moved macenite and louon (got tons of splinters and cuts).i kept my group undercontrol and working.i helped others as much as possible.i worked really hard today and deserve a 100.

friday's post
today we got really close to finishing the pit completely. i started by organizing all the platform legs with lindsay and some other people who were going in and out of the group. then we started to help the "family" making group, so we could finish organizing. so i was walking around looking for 2 by 4's to give to the actual family makers. then once we finished all the families, we started stacking all of the legs.
as a stage manager today, i was put in charge of the platforn leg group. i also tried my best to organize within the group, making sure there was a clear system of what was going on. i thought of our organization system with the legs and scrap 2 by 4's.
pg-100
today at one point i was pretty much the only person organizing the scrap wood. i tried to keep the group moving but only some people came to help me when class was winding down. i worked really hard despite my feeling like crap. and i tried to keep the group i was working with going so we could finish as much of the pit as possible.

PIT ATTACK DAY 1:
we attacked the pit head on today. i was in charge of the macenite group of john, lexii, and fernando. we separated full pieces and the broken pieces and continued the afternoon class's count.then once the pit was completely clear (for the first time in a super long time) i helped sweep all the saw dust with ashley and a couple other people. i braved through the dust to keep working!! then we started loading everything back into the pit and i worked with kelsey, fernando, and emily to put in all the 8ft 2 by 4's.
today we also saw the inspiration for the set and some characters for comedy. i was thinking if it would be worthwhile for me to make like a little "inspiration book" for comedy. so like the pictures we saw today and any other things i think of while we're working, because then i think it helps me see the play differently and can help me relate.or,since i'm just a stage manager, it kinda doesn't matter as much? im not sure, but i think i might start that. as for my play i started version 2.0 today and i'm really happy with how its working out. yes there are still some kinks, but that just means there will be a version 3.0.
pg-100
today i worked really hard in the pit. i was moving macenite, and trying to keep my group together and working efficiently. i swept the pit which was rediculously filled with dust. and i made sure all the 8ft 2 by 4's were stacked neatly in the pit.

wednesday's post
today we finished hanging the general light plot. i worked with kelsey, abbi, margie, and lexii.you directed us since we couldnt find the plot. we hung a few lights and troubleshot a lot of lights. kelsey and i also re-weighted one of the electrics.
i guess every time i do lights, i just think about what if i was a designer? and i'm still really undecided. on the one hand i like working with lights, but i think my "get it done quickly" mentality would be really bad for designing, cause as you explained today, plugging lights in to random channels doesn't make a good light plot. there is a bit of a science when it come to circuiting, i guess i just want to know how people figure that out. so i have a question for jess when she comes for her workshop(s).
today as a stage manager, i tried to help as many people as possible. so when lexii or kelsey asked for help i tried to help as best as i could. i also downloaded the fottage from rehearsal yesterday.today as a young artist! i had a huge brain blast about my play, and i'm really excited to get to work on version 2.0. the new idea involves cutting a big issue i was having with my play, and that was the stealing aspect, even when writing it it kinda cam out of nowhere, and was a confusing plot, but cutting that can clean it up.version 2.0 also involves changing some character traits about my main boys, that i think makes them less stereotypical, and more realistic.so im quite excited to start 2.0

today i worked on lights. i tried to stay in charge of the light crew when you weren't there. i trouble shot alot of lights, and learned a bit about actually circuting.i learned how to change a parcan bulb.and kelsey and i re-weighted one of the electrics.

tuesday's post
today we continued movement with the actors. katelyn and i continued filming for our documentary, even though we couldn't use the school's camera because we're chickens and don't want to break the million dollar camera. the workout today was tough,i was seriously sore during school, and still sore at home. but i'm determined to continue working out because that going to help with my new years resolution. if it hurts, its helping.
today was my first day "directing" sort of. even though i was mostly going over what we did yesterday. i really tried to help the actors think of new tactics, whether they worked or not, and helped with their activities during the scene. we did get to run the whole scene, since we borrowed scarlett for a bit. i think it was a pretty productive day.
pg-100
today i paid attention to the actors while they were working. i filmed the rehearsal for the documentary. i wrote the rehearsal report. i worked with lindsay and lexii today on one of their scenes. i also worked my hardest today with the workout, because i really want to get stronger and fitter.

monday's post
happy 2011!
so today we went into the theatre, and the actors worked on their character.as a stage manager, i moved cubes on stage for the actors, cleaned up the stage from tech, i began filming rehearsals because me and katelyn are all for making a documentary of sorts about comedy of errors.i also added on to katelyns rehearsal report. and i learned the difference between a more character focused direction style and psycolocial realism.
it was really interesting to watch everyone work today.watching the rehearsal back, you see how different one character is from another.and watching everyone work and find there characters was really interesting.though watching i was starting to wish i could be up there working.i guess i feel like my choice is already made, because if i wanted to go back to acting next year, i'd be a year behind. but im pretty sure i wouldn't want to focus on acting, but i would want to learn about it.
pg-100
today i helped clear the stage. i paid attention to the actors' work.i helped a bit with the rehearsal report.i set up chairs for the actors.and i began filming for katelyn and my documentary-thing.
